Sheet Metal Bending Equipment

Ingenium's customer with a sheet metal bending press had a problem in the fabrication of a 90 degree bend that was introduced to a part at its final operation. The bend process was causing the sheet metal on each side of the bend to warp making some parts out of tolerance. Ingenium was hired to determine the root cause of the problem and to suggest a new machine tool configuration which would address the warping.

Original Design Cause Part Warping

Using analytical means, Ingenium engineers were able to recreate the problem and determine that the redesigned machine would require increased rigidity. The new concept design would have an increased 5 supports over the original 3 support configuration. Ingenium worked with a partner company to produce the new equipment and delivered it turnkey to the customer.

Redesign Provided Increased Rigidity and Parts Met Tolerances
